What is a Pollinator Garden?
A mix of native wildflowers from Southern Ontario, chosen to provide food for pollinator insect species.
Why plant a Pollinator Garden?
On a global level the populations of pollinator species have reduced dramatically due to loss of habitat, herbicides, pesticides, invasive species, diseases and parasites. By planting a pollinator garden, you will be providing important habitat and food sources for pollinator insect species. Renaissance style landscaping in North America has replaced important natural habitat with ornamental species that are non-native to our ecosystems. Most of these species have evolved outside of the formed relationships native plants and animals have. Thus, these non-native species do not provide the necessary food and habitat to continue healthy natural systems. Make your backyard into a healthy habitat for pollinators!!!
